The Geese of Feliferhof do exist!

As a tribute to the memory of Austrian opponents of the Nazi regime, the Austrian Republic opened an international competition for the creation of a memorial by a contemporary artist. Early in 1996 the proposal put forward by Esther and Jochen Gerz was accepted. The intended site is "Feliferhof", where many Resistance members and soldiers from Hungary, Germany, France, Russia and the United States were executed by the Nazis between 1941 and 1945 and which is now one of the Austrian army's main shooting ranges. The project calls for the installation of four white flags bearing four sentences in red. The flags are to be used for a year, after which time four new ones, created by draftees themselves, will replace them for a year, and so on. After initially giving its approval, the Austrian army pulled out. Given that much still remains unsaid about this part of the nation's history, Esther and Jochen Gerz's project has generated a major controversy that the Austrian and German press have taken up in detail. by sending us your propositions for the four flags to the editor of the parisian Artzine www.synesthesie.com.
